A young tennis player reached the final of a junior tournament at Wimbledon.

Harry Mitchell, 14, from Blunsdon St Andrew, competed in the Play Your Way to Wimbledon National Finals in the 14U boys category.

Starting with a group stage and progressing to the knockout stages, the competition included one representative from each county along with additional competitors from Scotland and Wales, totalling 48 players.

He began his Wimbledon journey on Sunday, August 11, and by the fourth day of the competition, found himself surprising many as he had won all seven matches, beating three seeded players along the way.

He advanced through the group stages and knockout rounds of to reach the final on day five, which featured an umpire and line judge.

His opponent was the event's top seed, a UK ranked 10th player in 14U, and battled hard but came up short as he was defeated 4-6, 4-6.

Mitchell earned his place by winning a tournament held at Swindon Tennis Club in May, where he practices twice a week.

He then won the Wilshire final in June, earning him the opportunity to represent the county at the national finals.
