A specialist charity shop has opened earlier than expected in Swindon after a complete shop refit was completed.

Prospect Hospice’s books and media shop opened on Victoria Road on Monday, November 18, before the announced opening of November 30 - when there will be the shop’s “grand opening”.

Shop manager, Lyndsey Workman, feels having a distinct books and media shop is “definitely” important.

She said: “There is a lot of demand for books and records in the town and we get a lot donated, from some very good donors.”

She suggested the reason for the demand may be the lack of book and record shops in Swindon.(Image: Newsquest)

The space, which previously housed Swindon Tuition Centre, has armchairs and record players and was professionally refitted.

The grand opening on Saturday, November 30 will include two children’s book readings, DJs and beer from Hop Kettle Brewery up the road.

The shop is now open at 138 Victoria Road.
