Domebuster slides, or the updated modern equivalent, do figure in Seven Capital’s plans for a refurbished Oasis Centre.

This week the developer, the de facto owner of the centre which has been closed for four years, published its proposals for the refurbished, and largely rebuilt centre in North Star.

One thing that stood out to many was that there was no mention of domebuster slides in the text and no indication of them within the graphics showing the site from above.

But Seven Capital has said since: “The slides are being replaced by a new intertube slide complex which will be an upgrade from the previous domebusters, along with improved aqua play and other water features.”

The company has also released a new plan graphic showing that there should be twisted slides leading from the access building to the southeast of the dome into the covered pool.

There were other questions raised by the website showing the plans swndonoasis.co.uk

There will also be a wave machine- described by Seven Capital as “A  21st century wow ball wave machine

The plans also show a skatepark on the eastern edge of the site. This will be a new facility. The existing skatepark on site is to be moved to Penhill Bowling Club grounds.

There has been much comment on the short period for residents to give their feedback to the developer about their plans.

Seven Capital has asked for feedback to be submitted via the website or info@swindonoasis.co.uk by 12pm on  Wednesday, November 27, which is less than 24 hours after the public consultation event to be held at New College Swindon on Tuesday.

Asked why there was so little time, a spokesperson for the company said: “We have clear timeframes we need to apply by in line with our development agreement with Swindon Borough Council.

We will continue to accept feedback beyond November 27 and after the application has been submitted, but this is the pre-submission date to obtain feedback and be able to make appropriate adaptations within our plans in time.

There will be a further opportunity for the community to leave feedback on the plans as part of a statutory consultation, which will take place once the planning application has been submitted.“

A formal planning application is expected either by the end of the year or early in 2025, particularly if the company is to hist its expressed wish to have the new centre open in 2026, the 50th anniversary year of its original opening.
