Four shopping trolleys fished out of River Biss in clean-up

Volunteers from the Trowbridge Environmental Community group conducted yet another clean-up of part of the river running through the town.

This time, they fished out four shopping trolleys – including three from Asda and one from Sainsbury’s – as well as several bags of rubbish.

The items dumped in the river and along its banks also included a bicycle frame with only one wheel, traffic cones, empty bottles, plus empty beer and cider cans.

Members of the eco group spent two hours on the clean-up on Saturday, November 16.

They worked their way along the stretch next to Innox Road clearing the river and its banks of rubbish dumped by passers-by.

Trowbridge Town Council leader Stewart Palmen, who helped with the clean-up, said: “I enjoyed that.

“It was really good seeing so many people turn up and they did a really good job.

“I had three bags full of aluminium cans, mostly beer and cider, from the ditches.

“I think we got four or five shopping trolleys out, a bicycle missing a rear wheel, and various bits and pieces.

“It was excellent and it was fantastic that Trowbridge Eco Group did that.”

Trowbridge Environmental Community is holding its annual general meeting at The Pump function room at The Lamb Inn, in Mortimer Street, Trowbridge, on Sunday, November 24, from 2pm-4pm.

More volunteers are needed.
