A new programme is set to empower aspiring filmmakers and screen enthusiasts in Swindon.

The National Saturday Club and Create Studios have joined forces to launch a free Film and Screen Saturday Club for young creatives.

Starting this month, it will present an opportunity for selected teenagers to dive into their creativity and explore potential career paths within the film industry.

These clubs help underrepresented young people to explore the subjects they love, develop key skills, and consider future career paths.

The initiative provides young people aged 13 to 16 with free access to study subjects they love at local universities, colleges, or cultural institutions.

The Film and Screen Saturday Club offers a chance to explore various aspects of the film and screen industry including production, editing, sound design, VFX, scripting, and animation.

Members will have the opportunity to bring their stories to life, acquiring practical experience in filming, editing, sound design, and lighting.

"We've seen first hand how vital it is to provide young people with transformative extracurricular opportunities, for free, that nurture their potential and provide pathways to success.

"Saturday clubs allow young people to develop skills, build confidence, and find joy in learning, regardless of their background.

"This is one of many new clubs starting this year nationwide, and we look forward to growing and offering more access to this enriching opportunity."

As part of the National Saturday Club, students can also access additional events including masterclasses with leading industry professionals, a summer show exhibiting their work at London’s Somerset House, and a graduation ceremony to celebrate their achievements.

Create Studios, a dynamic team dedicated to filmmaking's positive impact, focuses on supporting Swindon's local economy, creating jobs for young people, and creating a new wave of UK creatives and filmmakers.

Participants benefit from an "immersive" course led by experienced filmmakers, animators, producers, and creatives.

These industry professionals provide hands-on guidance, ensuring practical skills and insights are gained.
