Three new defibrillators have been installed across Parks and Walcot.

The lifesaving devices were put in place by South Swindon Parish Council after Walcot was listed by the British Heart Foundation as one of 10 priority areas for defibrillators in the UK.

The new defibrillators are located at St Andrew’s Church on Raleigh Avenue, and at St John’s Church and the Polish Community Centre on Whitbourne Avenue.

They are accessible 24/7 and are accessed by a code given in an emergency situation.

The cost of the defibrillators was reduced from £2,099 to £1,699 following grant funding from AED Donate, a charity that raises funds to install the devices throughout the UK.

Councillor Trish Philpot, representing Walcot and Park North, said: "The safety and wellbeing of our residents is one of our top priorities.

"These defibrillators will provide a crucial lifeline should emergency situations occur.

A defibrillator is most effective when used within the first minute of someone collapsing.

The likelihood of survival drops by 16 per cent if the defibrillator is used within three to five minutes.
