A pharmacy chain has opened a new branch in a former Trowbridge bar that was historically plagued by antisocial behaviour for two years.
Lockwoods Pharmacy has moved into a property at 33 Roundstone Street previously occupied by The Lounge bar before it closed in August 2022.
For the past two years, its doorway had been used by rough sleepers to shelter from the wind and rain until they were ordered by police to leave.
Since then, the property has been totally refurbished for the new pharmacy and a new door installed to block the area where homeless people sheltered.
Lockwoods Pharmacy is owned by St Aldhelm's Pharmacy Ltd and opened its Trowbridge branch in the listed property in July.
The company relocated from the nearby Roundstone Surgery in Polebarn Road where it had been faced with a “substantial rise in lease costs” which required the company to seek new operating premises.
A Lockwood’s pharmacist described the relocation as a “positive move” that was contributing to the regeneration of the area, adding: “We’ve had wonderful feedback.”
Lockwoods Pharmacy is offering vaccination and weight loss clinics as well as blood pressure checks in addition to other NHS services.
It will open from 9am to 1pm and from 2pm to 6pm, Monday to Friday, and closes on Saturday and Sunday.
