Waste firm Biffa is helping to pay for parents to stay close to their children in hospital after a Swindon employee told bosses of the support his daughter received when her baby was seriously ill.
Retired worker, John Sheppard, whose granddaughter Lacey-Mae was born with a life-threatening condition called congenital diaphragmatic hernia, suggested donating to Ronald McDonald House, which provides families with accommodation while their children are in hospital.
Biffa uses a scheme which allows them to donate to charity if drivers manage to stay accident-free for a month.
The firm has given £2,340 over the past three years, equivalent to 94 nights accommodation for families.
Mr Sheppard, from Abbey Meads, said: "While she [Lacey-Mae] was in the John Radcliffe hospital her parents were excellently looked after in the Ronald McDonald House.
"They provided them with a place to stay to enable them to be close to their little girl and also give the emotional and physical support they needed."
Lacey-Mae spent much of her life in hospital before she died from pneumonia in January 2020.
In May 2020, after a major fundraising effort, the charity opened a purpose built facility with 62 ensuite bedrooms, kitchens and a garden.
