A Wroughton hospice has been boosted by a donation of £1,500 as it continues a fundraising appeal.

Prospect Hospice, which has provided end-of-life care throughout north east Wiltshire and areas of Gloucestershire since 1980, has received the sum from housebuilder Barratt David Wilson Homes South West.

It is the sole provider for of this care in these communities, which includes Swindon, Marlborough and Royal Wootton Bassett.

The donation comes amid the hospice's efforts to fundraise, with its 'Save Our Hospice' appeal having so far brought in £161,000

The charity's CEO, Jeremy Lune, said: “Our funding from the NHS hasn’t risen in 10 years, while everything has become more expensive.

"Prices have risen fast over the last few years, the cost of medical care is climbing and the price of energy to power our equipment has rocketed.

"It means that while our inpatient unit has room to look after 12 people, we can only afford to look after six. And the hardest part is that more people than ever need our care."

He added: “This donation from Barratt David Wilson Homes South West means the world to all hospice staff and volunteers who understand the need for our services and support.

"The funding will help us continue to provide outstanding care and support to local people whenever and wherever they need it - whether that’s at the hospice or in their homes.”

Louise Ware, sales director for Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, added: "We’re honoured to contribute to Prospect Hospice’s ongoing efforts.

"The dedication and care they provide to our community are invaluable and we hope this donation helps them continue their vital work."

The charity’s appeal will be boosted by upcoming fundraisers including a garden fete at Prospect Hospice’s gardens in Wroughton on Saturday, September 7.

Its services cost more than £8 million annually, but statutory organisations, such as the NHS, contribute to only a quarter of its income.

The rest comes from various charitable events, lotteries, shops and community and corporate fundraising efforts.

Barratt David Wilson Homes South West is building at Buckley Gardens in Melksham.

The development includes 144 two, three, four and five-bedroom properties plus 43 affordable homes with a mixture of rent and shared ownership in partnership with a shared ownership provider.

It is also building new homes with Barratt Homes Bristol in partnership with Swindon Borough Council at Wichelstowe, one of the largest local authority joint venture agreements in the country.
