With 81 percent of Swindon residents using more devices now than they were five years ago, a connectivity provider has launched a new solution for smart home connectivity.

Full Fibre 900 PLUS by TalkTalk provides faster and more secure broadband service.

The company's research has identified a surge in demand for faster broadband as homes increasingly rely on multiple smart gadgets.

Security came out as a top priority with 30 percent of Swindon utilising internet-connected doorbells and 29 percent using security cameras.

Other popular internet-enabled items in the region include thermostats (19 percent), virtual reality headsets (18 percent), and sleep trackers (20 percent).

Additionally, 16 percent of households own smart kettles and coffee machines.

In comparison to 2019 when UK households connected an average of nine devices, the number has soared by 67 percent to an average of 15 devices in 2024.

Almost all residents confirmed that their device usage has remained the same or increased.

In terms of dream smart home gadgets, Brits revealed a desire for gadgets like a "mood switch" for their partners, a robot to fetch drinks and a fridge that automatically orders groceries.

Additionally, this boom in smart gadget usage has made residents more cautious about their home network's security.

In Swindon, a third (33 percent) of people said they would share their Wi-Fi password only with someone they trust, and 20 percent said they would reserve it for overnight guests staying a few days.

Steve Wallage, director of Product at TalkTalk, said: "The appetite for smart technology is undeniable, it's clear that fast, reliable broadband is necessary to keep households online.

“Designed for modern living, the all-new Full Fibre 900 PLUS package delivers ultra-fast speeds and enhanced security features – all at incredible value.

“We’re dedicated to empowering customers to take control of their digital lives, with the handy TalkTalk PLUS app, households and families can track payments, book installations and get instant help at their fingertips.”

The research concluded that 44 percent of Swindon residents would likely bring in additional smart home devices if they had access to faster, more reliable broadband.
