New crash barriers will be installed along a busy stretch of Great Western Way.

Work is expected to start on Monday to install crash barriers along Great Western Way, between Mannington roundabout and Blagrove roundabout.

The work will last for eight weeks and require lane closures and a temporary lower speed limit.

Swindon Borough Council's road safety officers have been reviewing the need for vehicle restraint systems on the road to prevent any potential collisions.

The project is funded through the Local Transport Plan programme and will include the introduction of a central reservation barrier, improving the existing nearside barriers, and the relocation of the traffic signs, traffic signal poles and street lighting columns further back from the edge of the carriageway.

The 40mph limit at Blagrove roundabout will be extended beyond the traffic lights by the Volvo garage.

To maintain the safety of the workforce and road users while the weeks of work are being carried out, the project will require lane closures and a 30mph speed limit to be in place on this section of Great Western Way throughout the next eight weeks.
