Inspired by Butterfly Conservation's 'Big Butterfly Count', local charity Avon Needs Trees are inviting people to come and follow their walking route across land at the Hazeland Project near Calne - and to count as many butterflies as possible on the journey.
The event, on Saturday (July 24), be be booked for free at www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/big-butterfly-count-at-hazeland-tickets-161514418975 or by visiting https://www.avonneedstrees.org.uk/events/.
The meadows at Hazeland are a beautiful sight in the summer, and teeming with butterflies" said Susan Barker, Hazeland project coordinator.
"We’re keen for local people to have a chance to explore the land there and discover more about the local wildlife.”
Full details and directions will be sent out once you have registered. On the day, information will be provided to help you identify the the butterflies you see and there will be volunteer guides around the site to help you. No prior knowledge of butterflies is needed to enjoy this event.
There are no hardstanding paths and we are not able to allow dogs on site, due to preserving the biodiversity at Hazeland.
This event is free to attend and Avon Needs Trees are very grateful to the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Calne Town Council for their generosity.
