A MAN attempted to rob an elderly couple before sexually assaulting two women in the town centre.
All three incidents happened in broad daylight shortly after lunchtime on Tuesday, June 1.
The pensioners had just withdrawn money from a bank to pay their rent when they were approached by a man on his bike at the top of Regent Street, near the Central Library.
He tried to grab the money and a mobile phone before he assaulted the couple.
After the attempted robbery, police believe he cycled along Regent Street and sexually assaulted a woman at 1.30pm.
He rode his bike towards Groundwell Road and sexually assaulted a girl around 2pm. Police say passers by confronted the man about what he had done.
A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and two counts of sexual assault and has been released while enquiries continue.
PC Adam Horwood of the Swindon Response Team said: “This would have been a horrific ordeal for the victims involved, and we are keen to hear from anyone who have witnessed any of these incidents.
“All these offences occurred in broad daylight and there would have been a number of people around the top of Regent Street when the attempted robbery took place and when the sexual assaults took place.
“If anyone has seen any of these incidents we urge you to please come forward and contact us on 101, quoting crime number 54210052263.”
