More clarity and communication is needed from Swindon Town owner Lee Power, says the Supporters' Trust. 

Speaking to BBC Wiltshire last night, the chairman said Town were 'on the brink' of collapse because of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

But speaking to one news outlet on occasion isn't enough for the Swindon Town Supporters' Trust which wants to see more communication and clarity on the financial situation at the club before it can believe what Power says.

Rob Angus, the vice-chairman of TrustSTFC, said: "The trust will be calling for proper engagement with fans and proper openness and transparency. 

"The real difficulty with Lee Power coming out on BBC Wiltshire is there's no proper questioning of the facts, so that you're not sure what to believe. 

"He says he's the only owner, we know the EFL money is more than what he said and we know there's further EFL money for clubs in financial hardship. 

"He said we were up to the salary cap when the previous manager said we were nowhere near it and the assistant manage recently said there's plenty of room in the budget. 

"It's difficult, with no transparency, no openness and no engagement, to understand if you can believe anything that is said.

"We have reached out to the chairman and CEO multiple times to say we can help and every time we get a polite response but no meaningful response."

Rob believes the lack of communication from the club could lead to fans becoming disenfranchised. 

He added: "His aim is to improve his position with the fans but I think the fans have heard these statements before and don't know what to believe. 

"We've heard him make these claims and calls time and time again but we don't see any transparency to back it up or any plan as to how the club's going forwards.

"It will help with some fans who will take it at its word but I think many will now, given the past eight years of the Power regime, one of the worst regimes in the history of Town. Many are fed up."

"We're not trying to be anti-Lee Power," added Rob. "It's more about, as a football club, we expect the club to be run with openness and engagement, the people who run the club to have a vision for the club and be able to run it through these times and beyond. 

"It's not too much to expect that, you see it from clubs like Plymouth Argyle and Accrington Stanley, that's what we're after."

North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson believes the return of fans will be key to survival. 

He said: "As a football fan I absolutely understand the financial pressures clubs are facing up and down the country. 

"The Government, Premier League and English Football League have been working together to find viable, sustainable income sources until we return to normality. 

"This must be reviewed as every week passes. The key will be the return of fans, crucial for income and with the rapid vaccination roll out there is light at the end of the tunnel."
