With schools closing early or allowing children to wear different clothing because of the heatwave at least one has made the decision to close completely.

Swindon Academy on Beech Avenue had initially told children to wear PE kits but to come in all-day and it had also stopped PE lessons and was going to prevent the use of the school's outdoor areas during breaks.

But parents received a message from the school informing them that this was changing and it was now closing at 11.55am.

It was also revealed it would not be opening at all tomorrow

This only applies to the secondary school, the primary school is still in.

Swindon Academy parents were also told that if pupils needed to stay at the school until 3.35 pm then they needed to let the school know by 11.30am.

This follows the declaration of a national emergency because of the hot weather, with temperatures set to reach up to 40C in parts of the country.

The Met Office has also issued its first-ever red weather warning for extreme heat and has warned that even those that are healthy and not just the young or the vulnerable face adverse health risks
