Nalis vows to prove worthy of Town deal
Veteran midfielder Lilian Nalis says there is still enough mileage left in his legs to earn a deal at Swindon Town.
The 36-year-old trialist arrived yesterday from his home in Corsica, where he has been training with Bastia, and will begin training with the Robins this week.
He is set to feature in Saturday's game with Southern League Premier Division neighbours Chippenham Town and is desperate to show Town what he can do, despite his ageing legs.
"I have been away from football now for two months and I am quite happy to be back, be in the dressing room and with people who like football," he said.
"I want to play football and want to bring my experience and want to help everyone at the club.
"I try to be honest with myself and if I didn't have any legs I would retire."
The former Leicester City star, who was released by Plymouth manager Paul Sturrock in the summer, has attracted interest from other parties but is pleased the Robins have stolen a march on their rivals.
"I have spoken to other clubs but nothing is moving forward and I was quite keen to get something good to focus on," he said.
Nalis will start his trial at the County Ground today and, although yet to see his prospective teammates, he has already heard good things.
"I have not been training with anyone yet but from speaking to the manager, he told me he thinks the club is capable of doing something," said the Frenchman.
"If I agree with the manager to come I know the club is capable to do something."
Nalis is the third trialist Malpas has seen this week with winger Mark Marshall and defender John Hills playing in the 2-1 win at Hampton and Richmond on Tuesday.
Town hope he can fill the void after former Southend midfielder Kevin Maher snubbed a move to the club on Monday.
