Murphy keeps Winsley in title race

AN OUTSTANDING display of bowling by Rob Murphy helped Winsley stay in the Wiltshire Division promotion race.

Murphy took six for 13 as Winsley bagged a 56-run victory at bottom side Devizes.

Winsley were put in to bat and though Tom Edwards made 32, the visitors looked in trouble after being bowled out for 134.

But Devizes' struggles with the bat continued as they were put to the sword by Murphy, with Rick Wright also taking two wickets.

Winsley eventually bowled Devizes out for 78 to seal a comfortable victory.

Winsley captain Andy Ellett said: "We got off to a fairly reasonable start but after that we struggled on what initially looked to be quite a good track.

"It actually played a bit slower than it looked. Certainly at tea-time we felt a bit disappointed with the total we'd got.

"But we were very pleased with our bowling performance, particularly after last week.

"We put the ball in the right areas, built some pressure and it enabled us to take wickets at regular intervals.

"It was excellent bowling, particularly from Rob Murphy.

"In the end it was a good performance. It was nice to turn them over after we lost to them earlier in the season.

"We're back on track a little bit and a number of other results went our way. The top four or five sides are very close.

"We've got two crucial games coming up, Potterne and then Malmesbury the following week.

"Hopefully we can take advantage of being at home to Potterne, maybe score a win there and then go and fight it out at Malmesbury.

"The bottom line is we must keep winning if you want to be there or thereabouts at the end."
